Causes of Infertility in Women

Infertility is a quite a prevalent issue. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately ten percent of women in the United States have a hard time getting pregnant. A couple is considered as infertile if they failed to become pregnant after one year (for women who are 35 or older) or 6 months (for women under 35) of steady, unprotected sex. There are several possible infertility causes in women, and there are things that a woman can do to better her odds of getting pregnant. If she suspects an infertility problem, she should talk to her doctor.

Some of the infertility causes in women are quite straightforward. Age can be a very big factor. Many women waited until after 30 or 35 years old before they decided to get pregnant, but it’s more difficult to get pregnant at that age. The woman’s eggs are older, and there are fewer eggs left. This will affect her chances of getting conceived naturally. If a couple failed to conceive after trying to conceive for 6 months, and the woman is 35 years or older, they should seek for expert’s advice and find out which infertility treatments are best for them.

Some other factors in women infertility causes have to do with health. If a woman wants to get pregnant and she smokes, she needs to stop. Not only is smoking not good forĀ a baby, but it increases the amount of mucus around the cervix, which makes conception harder. Another health consideration is diet. She should eat healthy food, not junk, and make sure she gets plenty of folic acid. She should also take prenatal vitamins. A poor diet can contribute to conception problems. A woman wanting to get pregnant should watch her weight; she should maintain a healthy weight, or a BMI of 19-24. Exercise is definitely important.

If a woman goes a year without conceiving, she may want to visit her doctor. He knows well about the various infertility causes in women, and will be able to find out what the exact problem is. He also knows what’s the best way to deal with it. It may be something easy, such as using an ovulation kit to help determine her fertile days, or he may decide a fertility drug will help, or he may select another option. There are even specialists who may be able to help. Once the cause of infertility is identified, the best treatment can be given to increase the odds of conception.
