The Relationship between Termites and Pheromones

There is a very interesting relationship between termites and pheromones. When it comes down to it, the answer is similar to the reasons that ants do what the queen ant says, or that bees do what the queen bee says. Basically, termites and pheromones exist in tandem with each other, and if it wasn’t for pheromones, termites wouldn’t be able to do what they do.

When you are exploring the relationship between termites and pheromones you should know that termites can cause disaster to our house. Basically, the termites will gather in one place and eat the inside of the walls, and this can cause great damage. However, the question often arises as to how do all those termites know where to come and how do they know that their other termite friends will be there?

Excellent Communication

The answer lies in the relationship between termites and pheromones. When a termite, or any other bug for that matter, wants something, they release pheromones. This happens when they want to mate, it happens when they want to tell others what to do, such as the queen ant or bee, and it happens when they are trying to attract other bugs. This happens with termites and pheromones as well. When a termite gets into a situation where there is a lot of work to be done – such as a wall that they see as needing to be eaten, they will release pheromones that attract other termites to that area.

As more and more termites get the message and come there, more pheromones are released. This means that termites and pheromones go hand in hand. One termite will release a pheromone, and more will come. Then, more will release the pheromone, and even greater numbers will arrive. It will continue this way until the termites are destroyed, or until they completely destroy whatever structure they are eating and have to move on.

The relationship between termites and pheromones is a working one. The insects need the pheromones in order to attract more, and the termites and pheromones work together to create a termite community in which more and more are attracted. At the same time, the pheromones attract the male and female termites to each other, so more and more termites are bred.

Many organizational experts are amazed to see the excellent communication between such insects and wish to model company effectiveness on such a model.
