Barry eventually made up his mind that he needed to go and see his physician about his irresponsible drinking. At first, Barry thought he would be able to merely go on the world wide web, look for some straightforward alcohol abuse and alcoholism information and determine whether or not he was alcohol dependent. Not unexpectedly, he located more than a few websites that cataloged some of the typical symptoms of alcoholism. That’s the positive news. The less than positive news, unfortunately, was that Barry exhibited numerous of these alcoholism symptoms.
Symptoms of Alcohol Dependency: Some Examples
As a case in point, Barry was drinking a lot more than usual and he was starting to have more passionate arguments with his significant other. Additionally, for the first time in his life he was experiencing sleeping difficulties. Similarly, Barry often felt depressed and on an escalating basis he had been manifesting limited attention to detail at work.
In much the same way, he felt stressed out and more jumpy on a regular basis and for the past six or seven months he manifested befuddled thinking while on the job. In view of the fact that Barry displayed all of these symptoms, he was understandably nervous about his irresponsible drinking.
So Barry decided to contact his doctor and ask for an appointment. In point of fact, this was tough for Barry because his family physician was also his parents’ family physician. The root of his discomfort was this: at the risk of embarrassing his family, he had to go and disclose his careless and excessive drinking behavior to his family healthcare practitioner.
When Barry arrived at the physician’s office, he overtly informed the healthcare practitioner about the consternation he felt about his hazardous drinking behavior. When the family healthcare practitioner asked what was triggering this trepidation, Barry affirmed that he had gone online and read about alcohol dependency and especially about alcohol dependency symptoms. He then listed all of the alcoholism symptoms that he undeniably thought he manifested.
A Thoroughgoing Physical Examination and Outpatient Alcohol Treatment
The family healthcare practitioner informed Barry that it was intelligent of him to tackle his drinking problems, he gave Barry a thoroughgoing physical assessment, and recommended that he enter into an out-patient alcohol treatment facility that was managed by one of his doctor co-workers.
In much the same way, when Barry stated that he had been feeling gloom to an increasing extent, the healthcare professional notified Barry that depression and alcoholism commonly crop up in the same individual. Consequently, the doctor also suggested that Barry get therapy to address his melancholy.
The Advantage of Dealing With Your Drinking Problems and Getting Encouraged About Making Successful, Positive, and Healthy Changes in Your Life
The physician made it a point to notify Barry that he might not necessarily be addicted to alcohol, but that he was without a doubt drinking in an excessive manner. Stated another way Barry was displaying alcohol abuse signs.
The physician then informed Barry that the reason he suggested alcohol treatment in the first place was because he wanted him to come to terms with his drinking problems, make sure that he stopped them from deteriorating, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to absolutely abstain from drinking.
When all’s said and done, by effectively treating his problem drinking, Barry would be able to get his problem drinking under control and abstain from the negative sequence of events that could possibly lead to addiction to alcohol.
Plainly, Barry did not want to face the thought of getting admitted into an alcohol rehab facility. Nor was he overjoyed about going to a therapist about his despair. Irrespective of these trepidations, to the contrary, Barry actually felt some emotional relief for the first time in several months because he finally stopped making excuses for himself and decided to do something affirmative about his drinking activities.
With such a positive attitude, it was very likely that Barry would be successful in his alcohol treatment as well as in his treatment for his depression.
