Early Menopause Symptoms, Causes and Hot Flashes

Every woman inevitably will have to deal with menopause and hot flashes . The problem is that no one talks about menopause. Women entering the stages of menopause are very unequipped due to a lack of information going in. For that matter, men are very unequipped. Men do not know anymore than the women what to expect when their loved ones begin to enter into the stages of menopause.

Due to a lack of knowledge, men and women alike are a little frightened when it is time to deal with menopause. Hopefully we can answer some questions and provide you with some information  so that you will know what to expect.

Menopause is referred to the time in a woman’s life right before or right after she stops menstruating. This is the time that ends her reproductive period of life.

Why does menopause happen?

When a baby girl is born she has a finite number of eggs in her ovaries. The ovaries are responsible for producing estrogen and progesterone. These two hormones regulate ovulation as well as menstruation. When the ovaries stop producing eggs each month and menstruation stops menopause occurs.

When does menopause happen?

The “normal” age for menopause to happen is after age forty. Sometimes, though, women experience menopause earlier due to surgical intervention. In this case the term used is premature menopause.

What are the stages of menopause?

Menopause is split up into three stages: perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause. Women progress through these stages gradually.

Perimenopause

This stage starts several years before menopause. In this stage the ovaries start to produce less estrogen. This stage can last until menopause begins. The decrease of estrogen accelerates in the last couple of years of perimenopause. This is the stage that women experience many of the menopause symptoms.

Menopause

This is when a woman has her very last menstrual period. When this stage comes the eggs have stopped being released and the ovaries have stopped producing most of the estrogen. Menopause can be diagnosed when the woman has not had a period for twelve months in a row. This is typically the stage when the woman starts taking supplements such as black cohosh.

Postmenopause

This is when menopause is over. The menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes slowly begin to disappear in this stage.

The above information, hopefully, will equip you to be prepared to go through or to support someone who is going through menopause.
