Another type of home remedy is to use antihistamines to induce sleep. Antihistamines are drugs used to treat allergies. Antihistamines can be bought over the counter and they produce a drowsy effect in most people. These do work to help a person get a good night’s sleep, but they are not guaranteed to make you sleepy and the effects can last throughout the day, not just at night.

The different drugs work in different ways, but they all produce the same result – helping a person get some sleep. With behavior modification, the person’s insomnia has resulted by something they are doing, not by an underlying medical condition. A person has to identify what behaviors are causing the insomnia and work to reduce, eliminate or change those behaviors.

There are many options in treatment for insomnia. A person that is suffering from insomnia should not have to suffer. There are treatment options to fit anyone’s needs. Behavior modification could be the answer and the person would not have to be on medication, just simply change their habits. Instead of suffering, a person needs to go see their doctor and start getting the treatment that will let them sleep again.
