Swollen Hemorrhoids- Painful Conditions

Within the human body there are two types of biological systems that transport the blood supply. One system is composed of arteries which transport oxygenated blood throughout the body. The arterial system transports blood away from the heart.

The other system is composed of veins which facilitates the transportation of non-oxygenated blood back towards the heart. Generally, everything functions fine unless conditions occur that cause a disruption in this blood flow process.

One such condition that is caused by a disruption of the blood flow in the venous system is the condition known as swollen hemorrhoids. In understanding this medical condition it is important to know what are swollen hemorrhoids, how to prevent this condition and the treatment.

What Are Swollen Hemorrhoids?

The medical diagnosis of swollen hemorrhoids can be an uncomfortable or sometimes painful condition that the body experiences. This condition occurs in the distal portion of the inner part of the rectum or the anal area of the human body. Hemorrhoids occur when the veins in this area become swollen or dilated. This swelling can be caused by a number of lifestyle factors.

Some of these lifestyle factors that can cause swollen hemorrhoids can be the eating of an improper diet, lack of exercise, improper lifting of heavy objects, being overweight, etc. An improper diet can consist of too much sugar, red meat or not enough water. When an individual does not eat properly this may lead to constipation which in turn causes the individual to strain during their bowel movement.

All of these factors can lead to an increase in pressure on the veins located in the rectum and anus area. Subsequently, this pressure causes the veins to swell and therefore cause the condition of swollen hemorrhoids.

Prevention Of Swollen Hemorrhoids?

It stands to reason that to prevent swollen hemorrhoids, one must ensure that their diet is replete with fiber, ingestion of less red meat and drinking the proper quantities of water. In addition, it is important that individuals follow a regular exercise program to help with their digestion and elimination of waste.

Another important rule to follow in regards to avoiding pressure in this area is to lift heavy objects in a proper manner. This proper technique should include the use of the legs when lifting items of weight and avoid the pressure that lifting heavy objects can place on the anal area.

Also. it is important to remember that one of the primary uses of the restroom is for the elimination of waste from the body. Therefore, when sitting on the toilet it is important that you minimize your time while being seated. The bottom line is that the restroom should not be used to catch up on your reading for the day.

Treatment Of Swollen Hemorrhoids

The treatment of swollen hemorrhoids mainly concerns itself with the reduction of swelling in this area. This swelling can be reduced by soaking the anal area in hot water, sitz bath, for a period of 15 to 20 minutes. This practice can be done a number of times during the course of the day.

In addition, there are many topical ointments and rectal suppositories that can be utilized to decrease the pain associated with swollen hemorrhoids. These treatments will not only reduce the swelling, but will help to alleviate the pain, burning and itching associated with swollen hemorrhoids.
