This process will stop the blood flow into the area, causing the hemorrhoid to eventually fall off on its own. A sore will be left in its place, and this will usually heal by itself within two weeks. This is the most popular procedure for a prolapsed hemorrhoid, since it is not terribly invasive, causes very little discomfort and is highly effective. Occasionally a hemorrhoid will return to the area, but another rubber band ligation can easily be done in these cases.
