The pregnant woman with painful hemorrhoids should try a sitz bath by sitting in a warm bath several times a day for at least ten minutes. Pregnant women should also try to apply ice packs to the affected area several times during the day for about ten minutes. Heat applied the same way may lessen the pain from hemorrhoids.

Pregnant women should also try to avoid straining while in the bathroom to avoid the swelling of the blood vessels. Those affected should also try to wash the affected area with baby wipes for a further cleaning. The pregnant woman should consult with the doctor or a pharmacist who will be able to suggest some topical medications that will alleviate the pain. Many effective treatments are available from the pharmacy, but these should be used with permission of the doctor during pregnancy. These treatments will provide relief for the pain and suffering.
